Getting to know Vanderhoof
The adventure continues. Sunday night we got settled in ready for our assault on repairs. Of course no VW dealers and really the town of 4,000 people had only one dealer that was a Ford. Tammy was the first one in the dealership. They could not have been more accommodating and she agreed to have a mechanic look over the vehicle first thing. They were booked, but with a little talking we indicated that some extra cost for overtime would be welcome and appreciated by us if we could be fit in. The service manager Chad and their lead tech Randy agreed to work over and after the shop closed. Larry and I went for pizza and beer so we could enjoy their company while they fixed the van. The first thought was a water pump that they got it delivered earlier in the day but it turned out only to be a small but odd shaped coolant hose. They fabricated one up and finished the van in due time. The two guys were hero's and interesting as hell. We had a laugh about how typical the situation was with three guys watching and having beer while one guy worked. Randy found humor in our analogy and did not have a beer until all his work was finished. We talked about how life was up here and the differences between our countries and policies. Without the van problem we would have never stopped and walked the town and meet people in this small community. We had time in the day before they worked on the van and decided to go to the dentist. I developed a cavity in my front tooth that was bothering me and had it checked out and fixed. Larry had a recently chipped a tooth that needed attention and felt comfortable after my good experience to get his tooth taken care of too.
